Follow these tips to keep your Christmas tree fresh, fragrant, and safe.

Watering Your Christmas Tree

  • Your tree likely needs more water than you think. Make sure to place your Christmas tree in a stand or a bucket of water within two hours of a fresh cut. If you are unable to do so, we recommend that you cut off another half inch immediately before placing the tree in its stand. Payne Christmas Trees’ staff cuts across the base of the tree, removing approximately one inch of the trunk immediately before loading it on or in your vehicle.

  • When selecting a stand for your tree, be sure to use one that will hold a gallon or more of water. Check the water levels often and keep the stand full.

  • A fresh cut Christmas tree may take up to a gallon of water in the first 24 hours and likely a quart a day after that.

Safety Tips for Your Christmas Tree

  • Place your tree away from heat sources, heating vents, fireplaces, wood stoves, radiators, and sunny windows.

  • If decorating your tree with lights, do not overload your electric circuits.

  • Please never forget to turn off the tree lights before leaving home or going to bed.

Reminders

  • If you purchased a bag for easy tree disposal, don’t forget to put it under the tree stand before decorating.
